Courage is taking one step at a time

Living with a disorder that twists your reality and blurs what’s real and what isn’t can feel frighteningly intense. It is a complex syndrome that significantly affects the lives of the person affected and their families. Schizophrenia interferes with people’s thought perception, behaviour and movement. Its causes may include genetics, brain chemistry, or life experiences. Schizophrenia is a chronic and enduring disorder that requires ongoing treatment and support.

With the right guidance, life begins to steady. Each step becomes a little clearer.

And we walk beside you with patience and care shaped just for you.

Schizophrenia symptoms fall into 4 main types:

Positive Symptoms (added experiences, not typical in healthy individuals)

1) Hallucinations: Hearing voices, seeing things, or feeling sensations that aren’t real
2) Delusions: Strong beliefs not based in reality (e.g., being watched, controlled)
3) Disorganised Speech: Difficulty organising thoughts, leading to speech that is hard to follow.

Negative Symptoms (loss of normal functioning)

1) Social withdrawal and isolating from family, friends or daily interactions
2) Avolition: Reduced motivation or interest to engage in daily tasks
3) Affect flattening: Difficulty in expressing feelings or emotional flatness
4) Alogia: a limited or relative absence of speech.
5) Anhedonia: Lack of pleasure, indifference to activities that would typically be considered pleasurable

Cognitive Symptoms (thinking and processing difficulties)

1) Poor concentration and focus
2) Memory problems
3) Slowed thinking and decision-making
4) The person may make up words (neologisms) or use words in unusual ways.
5) Their thinking may appear illogical or fragmented, making communication difficult.
6) Having trouble expressing simple thoughts coherently

Stories Of Hope

Hear from those who walked the path of recovery for Schizophrenia.

Pradeep Gowda

I started feeling like the TV was sending me hidden messages, and every small sound in the house made me tense. Conversations felt slippery, like my thoughts were running ahead of my mouth. I kept brushing it off as overwork, but things only got worse. At Sukoon, the doctors explained that these were early signs of schizophrenia and helped me understand what my mind was doing. Their calm approach and the schizophrenia treatment made the whole process less scary. I’m truly thankful because I finally feel steady again.

Consultant Psychiatrist

Inpatient Psychiatry in India is always equated to an asylum kind of care but I have seen Sukoon and met with the founders, and their vision seems to be very aligned to what a lot of our patients want and what our families want.
