Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders include disorders that share features of excessive fear and anxiety and related behavioural disturbances. Fear is the emotional response to real or perceived threat where whereas anxiety is the anticipation of future threat. While they both seem to overlap, manifestations of anxiety and fear differ. Fear leads to autonomic arousal needed for fight or flight response, escape behaviour or tackling thoughts of immediate danger. Anxiety is more associated with tensions related to preparation for future danger and cautious or avoidant behaviour.

One such type of anxiety disorder is Social Anxiety disorder. Social Anxiety Disorder is marked by fear or anxiety of social situations in which the individual perceives that they will be exposed to scrutiny by others, negatively evaluated, get embarrassed.

Think You Know Social Anxiety? Think Again

Social Anxiety Disorder is much more than feeling nervous in social situations. It develops over time due to a mix of genetics, environment, and personal experiences.

These patterns can make everyday interactions challenging, but with the right professional support, overcoming social anxiety is possible.

Social Anxiety Disorder symptoms can show up as:

Intense Fear in Social Situations

Persistent worry about being judged, embarrassed, or humiliated in social settings.

Anticipatory Anxiety

Tension before the perceived threat in the future or an event

Avoidance of Social Interactions

Skipping gatherings, meetings, or conversations to escape feelings of anxiety.
